Nursing Errors

Medicine in the United States is big business. Corporations that own and run hospitals make billions of dollars, and CEO's of "nonprofit" hospitals take home million dollar paychecks. Sadly, the people making all of this money are far removed from the people providing the care at hospitals-the nurses.

Twenty years ago nurses were treated as professionals by hospitals, and given the opportunity to really care for their patients. Now they are seen as an expense-and where nurses used to have five patients to care for in a shift, now they have ten, or more. To make even more money, the corporations which run hospitals hire poorly trained nurses from third world countries, many of whom can barely speak or understand English-let alone medicine. These nurses are much cheaper for the huge corporations. They are dangerous for the rest of us. They don't understand orders from doctors. They don't understand us when we tell them what is wrong. They don't understand the chemistry of the drugs they are passing out. Its little wonder that patients are dying because of them.

Nor is it any wonder that overworked American nurses, supervising poorly trained foreign nurses and responsible for the care of four and five times the number of patients they should be, often drop the ball. According to the U.S. government, medication errors alone kill over 50,000 people a year in American hospitals. Thousands of people are dying so that health care corporations can make those billions of dollars a year.

At Polewski & Associates, we have handled many cases involving nursing errors-like the little boy who died because the nurse gave him an IV with the wrong drug, and the elderly man who died because the nurses were too busy to notice symptoms of the infection which killed him. We've seen how people can die when they are ignored, and when complaints of the family that their father is dying get no response for hours. There is no excuse for these deaths.

At Polewski & Associates, we understand why nursing errors happen. We also know from experience that nothing makes a hospital corporation sit up and take notice of nursing errors like a lawsuit. Nothing motivates a corporation to change a negligent policy or practice like a reduction in profits. Profits was the reason they hired bad nurses. Profits is the reason they keep them.

Profits is the reason they won't change until someone like you stands up and says "Enough!" In over twenty years we have yet to have a client who came to us when their loved one died because of a nursing error who said they wanted money. All of our clients came to us because the memory of their loved one won't let them do nothing. You can do something, and you should. Call us-and lets make a difference together.
